DFW free fun!

Walking Tall Sculpture, Deep Ellum, Dallas, TX

DFW Free Fun is your go-to for local family-friendly, budget-friendly activities, outings and entertainment in the greater Dallas, Fort Worth Metroplex. We’re exploring and reviewing the parks, playgrounds and spraygrounds, community services and volunteer opportunities, businesses, museums, theaters and other art, music, educational and entertainment venues that shape our culture and make DFW an enriching place to live and visit.

One of the major adjustments many families with young children face is going from two incomes to one for a period of time. Hence, the focus on free and affordable. We want this site to be helpful for planning playdates, homeschool and educational activities, date nights, for those all-age outings when in-laws come to town, and for vacationers who love to dig into local culture.

There really is an endless variety of affordable, fun family things to do year-round here in the Metroplex and we are excited to share. We hope you make generous use of our area event calendars, kids eat free calendars, things to do reviews and announcements.

Mom & Pop Shops & Local Orgs

We are particularly excited about using this site as a platform to raise awareness about and promote the home-grown, locally owned, independent businesses, organizations, artists, musicians, performers and people of North Texas. “Think global, act local,” is definitely part of our ethos. We believe that successful local businesses and non-profits are the heart and soul of both a thriving local culture and economy. Helping to grow local by being a community resource that connects consumers to area producers inspires and motivates us.

We invite DFW area businesses and organizations to submit your events to be added to our free fun calendars (& not free but worth mentioning calendar), tell us about restaurant deals to add to our kids eat free calendars, connect with us on twitter, google+, instagram, pinterest and facebook so that we can help get the word out about your events and services. Send us your press releases, we want to know what’s going on. You can also get premium exposure to a local audience by sponsoring our weekly What’s Happening? newsletter and advertising on our website.

Join our Lets-grow-local!  biz email list

and we’ll let you know whenever we have any local business related specials (like discounted or free ad space), helpful blog posts or relevant announcements.

Note: this newsletter is strictly business and different from our What’s Happening? in DFW email.

This site is amazing. It opens up the DFW area in a whole new way. Thinking about busy parents who lack time to find all these gems–you’ve opened up a world of free and fun things for families to do together. (Your website’s name is a perfect fit!) Thanks, too, for letting us add our favorites as well (upcoming events, free places for kids to eat, etc.)

Thanks Denise! That’s our goal and we’re really just getting started, we’ve barely scratched the surface. I never knew how many fun and free things there are to do in the DFW metroplex! Working on this project has unexpectedly gifted me with a whole new perspective and appreciation for the rich culture and creativity of North Texas. We want this to be a solid resource for the community and to make our own contribution to the culture in positive ways. So, please do share your favorites and write about your experiences in the comments on our Things To Do pages, it will only make this site a richer resource for all of us.
