
Happy Autumn & Happy Halloween! Here is our 2015 round-up of pumpkin patches, corn mazes, fall crafts, hay rides, trick-or-treats and kid-friendly haunted houses in the greater DFW Metroplex. Not all of these are free but all are worth knowing about. We will be adding more details and events to this list over the next couple of weeks, so keep checking back.

Pumpkin Patches
Big Orange Pumpkin Farm at Preston Trail Farms – Gunter
This little farm, about an hour north of downtown Dallas, offers a hands-on experience with farm-related activities. See small, green pumpkins and yellow blossoms on the vine. Romp the hay bales and see, hear, touch, and learn about over 50 farm animals. Interactive signs in various areas of the farm help kids learn more about both the animals and pumpkins in the patch. A hay maze and hayride give kids a chance to experience country fall traditions.

Autumn at the Arboretum & Tom Thumb Pumpkin Patch – Dallas
Over 75,000 pumpkins, gourds and squash come together to form the nationally acclaimed Pumpkin Village. A multitude of special fall events are also available throughout the pumpkin festival including a hay bale maze, scavenger hunts and Tom Thumb Pumpkin Patch.

Country Critters Farm – Alvarado
It’s Pumpkin Patch time at the farm. Bring the family out to the farm for some old fashioned, affordable, family fun. Activities include: Bounce houses, tractor and train playground, petting zoo, pony rides (weekends only), hay ride, wagon train ride, wooden maze, duck races(ducks are $1), and game areas. Each paying child gets to pick a pie size pumpkin out of the pumpkin patch and decorate it with markers. Each family will get to pick a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch as well (weekends only). Kids will also enjoy a cookie and apple juice while listening to a great story at the story teller.

St. John Apostle United Methodist Church – Arlington
This year St. John the Apostle United Methodist Church will be celebrating its 17th annual Pumpkin Patch. The proceeds from this patch are used to support their youth group’s summer mission trips. Lots of pumpkins, lots of photo ops.
Family Fun Day is Saturday, Oct. 24, 10:00am – 2:00pm & will include games, lunch, music, bounce houses, and face painting. It will be a FUN for ALL, FREE for ALL, FELLOWSHIP for ALL event. ALL are iinvited! You do not have to be a member of the church to attend.

BigTex Stone Annual Pumpkin Patch – Fort Worth
This year’s pumpkin patch is carnival style with several games you can play by purchasing tickets, photo booths, and a setting to take family pictures. Oct 10, from 3-5 pm Sally Sue the Clown will be making balloon animals and face painting upon request. Proceeds benefit the North Texas Food Bank.

Pumpkin Patch Halloween at Catfish Plantation – Waxahachie
Catfish Plantation’s 6th Annual Pumpkin Patch, lots of photo opportunities and pumpkins available for purchase in the $1-3 range. On October 24th there will be a book signing with Ghost Photographer and Author Michael Graves as well as Horse Drawn Haunted Wagon Rides ($5). On Halloween Night only: Horse Drawn Haunted Wagon rides ($5), treats, 50cent kids meal specials and a FREE show with the mysterious and unpredictable storyteller, magician, and bard known throughout the lands as “Merlin The Wise” from 4 – 8:30. They will also be selling handmade sugar skulls and their seasonal signature pumpkin fries.

Flowermound Pumpkin Patch – Flowermound
FREE activities for the kids including hay bale mazes, bounce houses, slides and other inflatables, cartoon character cutouts and photo ops, hay ride, barrel train ride, playground with a merry-go-round. Picnic tables are available for individual use; however use of tables by any large groups or parties must be reserved and confirmed. Hundreds of pumpkins are available to purchase, from very small to incredibly large, along with cornstalks, hay bales, as well as baked goods and refreshments sold by a number of local vendors. Soft Drinks, Fruit Juice and Bottled Water are sold by the Pumpkin Patch during the week. On weekends other vendors may offer a variety of drinks, Kettle Corn, Corndogs, Hamburgers and Pumpkin Bread.

Hall’s Pumpkin Farm & Corn Maze – Grapevine
This farm-market setup sells pumpkins of all shapes and sizes, gourds, hay bales and corn stalks. There’s a 2 acre corn maze – what!?! Yes, a 9 ft. tall, corn maze with paths leads through unbelievable twists, turns and dead ends. Try it alone, with friends, or bring a flashlight and give it a try after dark for an extra challenge. It is recommended that adults stay with young children in the corn maze at all times. Friday and Saturday evenings offer Hay rides on a hay-filled trailer pulled by a farm tractor. Hayrides leaving before dark include a stop to feed the cows & donkeys, rides after dark do not stop. Tickets are sold day of the ride only and limited to 8 tickets per person.

Mainstay farm is about Agritainment. The Pumpkin Patch at First Christian Church – Arlington

Castle Hills Fall Festival – Lewisville
This year’s Fall Festival at the plaza features a six-pony carousel, a longhorn photo-op, face painters, carnival games, hay rides, a petting zoo, arts & crafts by The Enchanted Artist, cookie decorating by I Like Big Bundts, a pumpkin patch station, and much more! Live music will be provided by Rhythm & Beards Band. Food and Pumpkins will be available for purchase. Two $100 Williams-Sonoma® gift cards will be given away, so don’t forget to stop by the registration table. & FREE candy apples for the first 100 people! Boo at the Zoo – Fort Worth
Halloween-themed activities and entertainment will be located throughout the Zoo for all guests to enjoy, including: a live animal stage show at the Outdoor Learning Theater, a pumpkin patch, a Tot Spot, carnival area, crafts and treat stations for trick-or-treating.
