Fritz Park Petting Farm is Irving’s best kept secret, well maybe it’s not a secret but somehow I am just now discovering it. This is a very quaint petting farm in Irving that is only open 2 months out of the year. That’s right only 2 months, June and July. You walk into a mock barn-like structure and follow various paths to see different farm animals. On your way you will see cows, beautiful cows at that, goats, ducks, rabbits, peafowls, a peacock, a turkey, sheep, a pony, and some donkeys. One of the volunteers shared that these animals come from a local farm and the farm owner said the animals love going here for the two months, it is their vacation from the farm!
Don’t worry about getting your hands dirty, there’s plenty of hand sanitizer everywhere and a hand cleaning station near the restrooms. My 2 year old LOVED IT! He did not want to leave. They have a crayon station for kids to color and a party room, which rents for only $25. The restrooms are nice and clean. They also offer free cold drinking water because it does get pretty hot in July, even though almost the entire farm has beautiful shade trees to walk under.
The petting farm also has volunteer opportunities for ages 12 and older. The Fritz Park playground is within walking distance and if it becomes too hot for the playground fill up your water bottles and head to a nearby splash ground. My family made a day out of it, we went from the petting farm to Southwest Spray Park located at 2800 Shady Grove Rd.
