Today we ventured into the biggest little fish supply store chock full of wall-to-wall aquariums! This is definitely a great place to beat the heat and let your little ones explore their innate fascination with fish.
You would have thought my toddler was in a candy store, he was in awe of all the fish! For starters, there is a beautiful little koi pond near the entrance, where we were greeted by an employee who gave us fish food to feed the koi.
Their in-store Kid’s Corner has fish oriented books and coloring books accessible any time. Of course, our active 2.5 year old little man would rather run around but our slightly more subdued preschool girl was happy to spend time coloring and reading amongst the aquariums regularly between the ages of 3 and 4. At almost 5 she still loves to visit.
The Kid’s Corner is home to several regularly scheduled events, including the store’s annual summer program that meets on Thursdays, 3:30 – 4:30pm through out July and August. We haven’t had a chance to attend but the store clerks shared that it is a big hit and kids love it.
The Kids Corner at the Fish Gallery is also available as a space to host birthday parties on Saturday mornings, as well as fund-raisers, field-trips and more. These events can include a theme, (like sea turtles, sea horses, fresh water fish, overfishing and the environment, etc.) with a storytime, fresh and salt-water touch tanks, fish feeding and more. The cost for the birthday parties is $200 for a 2 hour session, including a host, space for serving cake and snacks, cleanup and a 15% discount on all store items that day. There is a free educational field-trip tour option that may be more of a discussion about the different fish, where they’re from, and so on. It usually includes a feeding but may not include the touch tanks.
Know Before You Go
- The Fish Gallery is located on the corner of Greenville Avenue and Twin Hills, not too far from Northpark Mall. You can park in the front on Greenville Avenue or in the back off of Twin Hills.
- Little one’s naturally love The Fish Gallery but when asked, the store clerk mentioned a recent Jacques Cousteau themed event that engaged kids from kinder to 12 years old.
- There’s a space where you can snack (bring your own), in addition to color and read.
- Just be mindful that the Fish Gallery is not an amusement park. It is a full service tropical fish and aquarium store doing business with actual customers who are shopping. We’re glad they recognize and accommodate kid’s natural curiosity about fish, let’s return the favor and be courteous visitors.
