Friday, April 22, 2016

Earth Day Dallas
This three-day free event is held in April to celebrate progress, hope, and innovation and is the largest event in the world of its kind.  Earth day Texas brings together environmental organizations, businesses, academic institutions, government agencies, speakers, interactive progreamming, and subject matter experts.  Attendees will also enjouy numerous outdoor experiences, including live music, sustainable beer and food pavilions, electric bike test tracks, and family activities.  Earth Day Texas creates a fun and engaging atmospher for thought and experiential learning while encouraging attendees to be the change they wish to see in the world.
When: April 22 – 24 10am-6pm

Grand Prairie Main Street Fest
Friday- 5 pm-midnight, Saturday- 9:00 am-midnight, Sunday- 12:00 pm-8:00 pm
The festival will celebrate the fun, festive, family atmosphere of Grand Prairie with 4 stages of LIVE! music featuring headlining performances by Los Lobos, Cody Canada & the Departed and more! Novelty Entertainment, Stunt Shows, Carnival Rides, an Arts & Crafts Area, Business Expo, Food and Beer Gardens, a KIDZONE and so much more! Follow their facebook page for details as they become available.

Garland Heritage Celebration 2016
Celebrate Garland’s rich history on Saturday, April 23, 2016 as Downtown Garland hosts the third annual Garland Heritage Celebration. This year we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Bankhead Highway, the first year round road to stretch coast to coast. Beginning in Washington D.C. and ending in San Diego, this famous highway just happens to run right through Downtown Garland on Main Street! The day will feature musical entertainment, historic and comedic lectures, and fun for the whole family. The public is invited to learn more about Garland’s Bankhead Highway heritage by attending the many themed events at this year’s celebration, including a special exhibit in the Landmark Museum as well as depot tours. Live music and children’s activities are also planned. Top off the day with a FREE showing of Disney Pixar’s “Cars” at the Plaza Theatre at 5 p.m.

Art in the Square
Art in the Square is a family festival with plenty of fun for children of all ages.
Kids can enjoy a variety of entertainment options from performers on both the Gazebo and Sabre Main Stages. The Southlake Women’s Club charity fundraiser, 150 artists, and entertainment on two stages. Food and drink and vendor wares will be available. A Kids’ Korner offers face painting, sugar art, oil coloring and more. The Zone, for teens and tweens, has bounce houses, a rock-climbing wall and more. Festival entry is free; some activities require an extra fee.

Claws Exhibit Opening at Sea Life Aquarium
The Claws exhibit will host different crustaceans from around the world including mighty coconut crabs, unique porcupine crabs, lively land crabs and even lobsters. The exhibit will also feature Japanese spider crab, the largest arthropod in the world, with legs that can reach 12-feet across when fully grown. To celebrate the opening of Claws and the importance of recycling, we are working with a local artist to build a larger-than-life handcrafted crab sculpture made entirely of soda cans.

Ghostbusters Pinball Launch Party
This is HUGE! Fun Gameroom Superstore & Free Play Richardson present the Ghostbusters Pinball Launch Party! Join us at Free Play from 7pm until midnight Friday April 22nd to play the all new, super-hyped Stern Pinball Ghostbusters! This brand new machine was shipped down from Chicago just in time for this event! We’ll be slinging our homebrew “Ecto-Cooler” all night (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions availabe). Video Bob from Bob’s Prop Shop will have his incredible, INSANE Ecto-1 Movie Car Replica on site for photos! We’re going all out on this one! We’ll have movie replica proton packs, ghost traps, ecto goggles and more! Watch out for Stay-Puft!  As usual, all of the games at Free Play, including the new Stern Ghostbusters, will be set to free play!

Fam Fest: Food, Art, & Music Festival 2016
We all know that the DFW Metroplex is a hot bed of some of the most talented and creative people that could rival any other large metropolitan area. Our goal with the 1st Annual F.A.M Fest is to bring together notable musicians, contemporary artists, food trucks, nonprofit organizations and local culinary rockstars to create a block party type atmosphere at this free event. Food from some of your favorite local eateries! Art show & live art exhibitions! Music performances on 2 stages by DFW’s top musicians!

Japanese Garden Spring Festival
Enjoy traditional Japanese dance, music, martial arts, raku, tea ceremonies and more as we celebrate the year of the monkey at the Japanese Garden, located inside the Fort Worth Botanic Garden.

Deep Ellum Spring Gallery Walk
Explore neighborhood galleries at the Deep Ellum Spring Gallery Walk on Saturday, April 23rd. Join us for any or all of the day’s activities within one of Dallas’ most culturally vibrant, pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods, filled with an eclectic mix of shops, boutiques, restaurants, pubs, and music venues. Gallery Walk – The Deep Ellum Gallery Walk is a free, self-guided tour of neighborhood art galleries that offers a tantalizing day of world-class art for every style and budget. Spend the day immersed in an array of exhibits WFAA calls “a one-of-a-kind experience” and CBS/DFW touts as one of the “Best Date Ideas for Art Lovers”. Maps will be available at 2650-B Main St. Artist Open Studios at Continental Gin – Deep Ellum’s historic Continental Gin Buildling celebrates its biannual Artists Open Studio featuring some of Dallas’ finest artists and their work. Doors open Friday, April 22 from 6:00 – 10:00 PM and Saturday, April 23 from 2:00 – 8:00 PM. Entry is free.
Dia Del Niño at the Latino Cultural Center, 11am-5pm – Join the LCC and the Texas Puerto Rican Foundation in celebrating Dia del Niño. This will be a fun day filled with carnival games, magic tricks, art crafts, balloons, face-painting and special performances by Hispanics guest clowns (Payasos) Moñoño, Rainbow, Junito, Adonai, Poco-Pelo and Trapito. Kwestival at Klyde Warren Park
Dallas Kwestival will transform Klyde Warren Park into a mini version of Dallas, where 15 local neighborhoods are represented by top local vendors, infuencers, and artists. Visitors can peruse the different neighborhood tents and try out local eats, treats, swag and more. This family-friendly event is free to attend.

The Secret Life of Pigeons at Klyde Warren Park
Kirtan, musical meditation, stems from ancient India. It is the yoga of music and the main practice of Bhakti yoga, the yoga of love. In kirtan, heart-soothing mantras are sung accompanied by classical Indian instruments as well as acoustic western instruments. The fun of kirtan is that everyone can get involved with the music by singing and playing along. If you are a musician, please feel free to bring an acoustic instrument.

Trinity River Audubon Center presents: “The Secret Life of Pigeons.” Come join us at Klyde Warren Park for our Pigeon Presentation, live pigeons, pigeon origami, homing pigeon messages, and more! At the end of the event audience members will release our homing pigeons to return home to the Trinity River Audubon Center. See your messages posted at the center and on our website!
